Golf can be very entertaining and is good for your health. The hardest part about learning to play golf is getting started. Read the following paragraphs for some ideas on how to do just that.

Wiggling the toes may offer insight into problems with one’s golf stance. Try to take a swing, if you are having difficulty wiggling your toes while doing so, then you are leaning in too far in favor of the ball. Proper posture is incredibly important when swinging. To find the right posture, try gently leaning back until your feet feel comfortable and aligned.

To ensure your posture is correct, wiggle your toes. If your feet move freely with no difficulty, you are likely leaning away from the ball too far. The proper position would be to lean into the golf ball, allowing your feet to move slightly, but not overly much.

Each of your golf clubs will have its own “sweet spot”, a spot where, if you strike the ball with a great swing, you will get nearly perfect accuracy. Take the time to recognize where this ‘sweet spot’ can be found on each of your clubs in order to maximize your game.

Make sure to line up your feet properly. Few things will improve a golf swing as much as having the correct footwork. You want to line up your feet perpendicular to the direction you want the ball to travel. To test whether your feet are pointing in the right direction, touch your club to your toes. Look at the direction the club head points in. This is the same direction the ball is going to move in once you hit it.

Consider bringing a small, high-protein snack, such as nuts, with you out on the course. Golf can make one both mentally and physically tired. The snack will provide you with protein to assist you in keeping your focus on the game.

Getting your exercise is an important step in preparing for a day on the course, but you also need to prepare your mind. Clear your mind of the everyday stresses and focus on your game.

Refrain from using a unnatural stance. Practice concentrating on the ball without using a club. Flex your knees, bend a bit at your waist and have your arms loose at your front. Clasp your hands together firmly. That is all that goes into this common position and if it’s not a comfortable feeling for you, then you are over doing the position.

When you are squared into position to take a swing at the ball, try to give your hips a swing as you move, so that you are distributing your body weight from your back foot, onto your front foot. This should significantly increase the power behind your swing and subsequently the distance the golf ball travels.

Golf offers a wide variety of benefits, both mentally and physically, and it is surprisingly simple to learn. Now that you’ve read this article, get out on the course and apply what you’ve learned. You should understand the basics well enough to play your first game.
